                        WOODROW WILSON MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS

The Woodrow Wilson Middle School athletics program offers interscholastic sports during the three seasons of the school year – fall, winter and spring. Students must have a current physical in order to try out and/or participate for these teams. Those physicals can be from the school doctor which will be given on certain dates prior to the season or from the child’s own physician on the school form.  If selected to represent Wilson as a member of a team, uniforms will be issued, transportation to the sporting events will be provided and rules and regulations will be followed. These rules include proper school conduct in or out of school, passing grades and displaying leadership qualities. Grades will also determine if a student can try out and/or remain on a team. The student must not fail two core classes or any three classes to be eligible. Some sports have study halls and many check on their student-athletes’ grades throughout the season and often throughout the school year.

Our scholar-athletes will not only learn the skills necessary to play their sport, but also life-time skills of commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship and living active lifestyles.  Practices/games can be held every school day and sometimes weekends and can last until 5:30pm depending on the sport. If school is closed (e.g. snow day) all activities will be cancelled as well. Playing a sport can be a valuable experience where one can learn to enjoy a sport for later use – be it in high school or for recreational purposes. Our coaches possess coaching permits and officials are from a certified board when available. Please encourage your child to try out and/or be a part of one of the athletic programs here at Wilson. Your support for your student-athlete and the program will be greatly appreciated.

Early each season, a Meet the Coaches Night will be held at the school. This event will give the parents and student-athletes a chance to hear from the coach what is needed to be a successful participant and supporting parent in the sport. It is mandatory that both the parent and student-athlete attend these nights. Important information such as practice and game schedules will be given and any questions can be answered. Those who are 2 or 3 season athletes must still attend the coach’s portion of the evening.

FALL   SPORTS

The fall season sport athletes will have school physicals done late August and again during school at Wilson.
