As I begin my sixth year in the Middletown Public School District, my expectations for our students, parents, staff, community, School Board, and myself continue to remain extremely high.

The momentum is ongoing to transform our district's culture and climate to one of continuous progress, collaboration, shared accountability, and excellence.  By focusing on: 1) data-based decision-making that changes classroom instruction to improve achievement for every student; 2) developing a caring and safe school community of learners; and 3) preventing learning difficulties vs. remediating problems, the district moves forward at a steady pace.

The district’s target continues to be on the consistency of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, with a primary focus on the improvement of student achievement in reading grades Pre-K - 12.  The foundation for moving the district forward evolved from the Entry Plan, Follow-Up Entry Plan, Building Instructional Team meetings, Priority Issues, Reading Task Force, the district’s NCLB Improvement Plan, District Improvement Plan, and School Improvement Plans.  Three action plans have been developed by the District Data Team with input and support from diverse groups and members of Middletown’s educational community.  Action Plan I:  Fully align Middletown’s Language Arts, math, science, and social studies curriculum and assessments with Connecticut’s state standards.  Action Plan II:  The district will improve student learning through implementation of the Connecticut Accountability for Learning Initiative (CALI).  Action Plan III:  The district will insure a positive social and emotional climate for all students, staff members, and families in every school across the district.  This year the district will focus on Action Plan III.

The goal is to ensure that every student achieves adequate yearly progress.

I continue to spend a great deal of time visiting all schools, meeting employees, and being actively involved in the city of Middletown.  We all share a common mission - providing the best education possible for all students.

My door is always open and I welcome your thoughts and encourage your participation.
