United States Environmental Protection Agency's SunWise Program

The SunWiseProgram will be implemented in the Middletown Public Schools 4th and 5th grades. The program, designed to meet the diverse needs of schools and communities nationwide, helps students learn about the science of the sun, the risks of overexposure to the sun, and what can be done to protect themselves from the sun's harmful UV rays. The curriculum is based on the SunWise Tool Kit and involves activities that are standards-based, cross-curricular, and innovative in their design.

Program Highlights:

  • The program encourages students to explore, assess, and understand their natural environment and those factors that affect their health.
  • Children will enhance their creativity, critical thinking, reading, problem solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • The program encourages students to be physically active, while protecting them from UV radiation at the same time.
  • "No Fry Day" - Friday, May 22, 2015
