Mr. Townes is a retired Veteran who has volunteered his yearly service in collecting, curating and posting historical artifacts for Keigwin’s annual African American History Exhibit in February since 1993.
He begins formulating a current theme or topic for the year's exhibit each summer and volunteers his time to prepare the entire exhibit with hundreds of primary and secondary resources. These artifacts come from his archives of newspapers and magazines as well as local community organizations publications, spanning several decades. His vision and hours of work are fully volunteered to our school and city community. He spends weekdays and weeknights during the month of January, ensuring that all items in the exhibit are displayed for all our students and community members to see and learn from throughout the month of February. ******* The celebration of Mr. Townes was held at an open house at Keigwin School on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 and was a huge success. This exhibit is now available to the community in the month of February, during school hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call Keigwin School for more information 860-632-2433.
