MIDDLETOWN, CT — It was a day of celebration and pride at Farm Hill Elementary as the fifth-grade class received special recognition from the South District Fire Marshal, James Mastroianni, for their participation in a city-wide fire safety poster contest. The highlight of the event came as students were awarded certificates for their efforts in promoting fire safety awareness through creative artwork.
Among the young artists, two students stood out for their exceptional work. Lucy earned first place across all of Middletown, a major accomplishment that has advanced her poster to the state-level competition, where it will compete for top honors among entries from across Connecticut. Her vivid and informative poster impressed judges with both its artistic quality and important safety message.
Fellow classmate Effy also made the school proud by securing second place in the Middletown competition, a testament to her creativity and understanding of fire safety themes.
Both students were presented with certificates by South District Fire Marshal James Mastroianni office during a small ceremony held at the school. The event underscored the importance of educating children about fire prevention in engaging and age-appropriate ways.
The poster contest, an annual initiative in collaboration with local fire departments and schools, aims to raise awareness about fire safety and prevention among young students. By encouraging them to express what they’ve learned through art, the program helps instill life-saving knowledge in a memorable way.
As Lucy’s poster moves on to the state level, the entire Farm Hill community is cheering her on — and celebrating a job well done by all involved.
