May 19, 2025 – Four driven students from Farm Hill Elementary School have made waves in the Stock Market Game, securing an impressive 16th place out of 85 teams in their region and ranking 462nd out of 1,590 teams . Luka, Robby, Lucy, and Benny, all 5th graders (competing amongst middle and high school teams), spent the last few months diving deep into the world of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, learning invaluable lessons in financial literacy, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
The Stock Market Game, a popular educational competition designed to teach students about investing and the economy, challenged participants to manage a virtual portfolio by selecting stocks, bonds, and other investments. Students had to react to the dynamic, ever-changing market and make decisions based on the shifting values of their investments. Over the course of a few months, the students learned how to track market trends, analyze financial reports, and diversify their portfolios to maximize their returns.
In a field of hundreds of teams, the Farm Hill team finished 16th in their region, a significant achievement in a competitive environment. They also ranked 462nd overall statewide, competing against nearly 1,600 teams from all over the state.
"I’m so proud of these students," said Mrs. Davis. "They really embraced the challenge, worked together as a team, and gained knowledge that will stay with them long after the game ends. It’s a great example of how experiential learning can make subjects like finance come to life."
The Stock Market Game not only provided a fun, competitive environment but also helped the students develop a range of skills that go beyond financial knowledge. They practiced communication, problem-solving, and decision-making, and even learned valuable lessons about the importance of teamwork in the face of uncertainty.
