We serve our birth to 5 families in Middletown at no cost. Funded by the CT State Department of Education and Middletown Public Schools. To find out more information about this State Department of Education funded program follow this link: https://portal.ct.gov/SDE/FRC/Family-Resource-Centers.
The Connecticut Family Resource Center concept promotes comprehensive, integrated, community-based systems of family support and child development services located in public school buildings. This model is based on the "Schools of the 21st Century" concept developed by Dr. Edward Zigler of Yale University.
Family Resource Centers provide access, within a community, to a broad continuum of early childhood and family support services which foster the optimal development of children and families. They offer parent education and training; family support; preschool and school-age child care; positive youth development services; and family day-care provider training.
Parents as Teachers Home Visitation Program
A comprehensive parent education program for families or childcare providers with children ages birth to age five. Through home visits, playgroups, parent education groups, developmental screening and a resource and referral service, the FRC offers parents the opportunity to learn effective parenting skills and build a support network.
Playgroups
Weekly playgroups are designed to be fun and educational for both parents and children. Age-appropriate activities, effective parenting strategies, and the enhancement of healthy child development are reinforced. The playgroups are for families and childcare providers with infants to preschoolers.
Resource and Referral
The FRC provides families with resource and referral services to support systems throughout the community. Families need not be enrolled to request support. This can be for preschool, basic needs, enrichment and much more!
Newsletters
Prepared by our staff, our monthly newsletter provides developmental information for parents, updates on activities in our community, and information on upcoming community and center events. Even when your children are beyond the playgroup age, you can stay in touch. Parenting is a lifelong education. Please email us to join our newsletter list.
Ages and Stages Questionnaire - SPARKLER APP
These questionnaires either paper copy or using the SPARKLER App are designed for parents to complete at home while observing their children. The questionnaire focuses on four domains of development: Language, Fine and Gross Motor Development, Social Development, and Emotional Development.
Summer Preschool Program (subject to funding)
Typically a four week half day preschool program in collaboration with our School Readiness Council. Primarily available to those incoming kindergarten students with limited to no preschool experience. Program is available dependent on funding.
Circle of Security® Parenting Workshops
The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is an attachment-based parenting education program that helps parents better understand and build on their relationships with their children. This program supports parents to:
Understand their child's emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
Support their child's ability to successfully manage emotions
Enhance the development of their child's self esteem
Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure
